Paul Gantt
President
Paul has more than 30 years of experience in the emergency management field. His career includes 15 years in the fire service where he held a variety of positions from firefighter to fire chief. He is certified by the State of California Office of the State Fire Marshal, Governor's Office of Emergency Services, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), California Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the University of California to provide training programs in hazardous materials handling and response, emergency preparedness and response, occupational health and safety, and regulatory compliance.
Paul has an Associate's degree in Fire Science, Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, and certification as a Fire Officer, Fire Prevention Officer, Public Education Officer, Radiological Officer, Fire Instructor, Emergency Medical Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician and Specialist, Paramedic, Registered Environmental Assessor, and lifetime teaching credentials in several disciplines. Paul holds the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) designation. He is also the author of the textbook Hazardous Materials: Regulations, Response, and Site Operations which covers all aspects of chemical handling and response. |

Ron Gantt
Vice President, Operations
Trainer/Consultant
Ron has been with SCM for more than
10 years, and has recently taken the responsibility for
the business operations of SCM as the Vice President, Operations. He is still the
lead Remote Instructor™ for the online courses, dealing
with thousands of students from a variety of industries,
on a variety of topics, including hazardous materials/wastes,
emergency response, confined space entry, and other OSHA,
DOT, and EPA courses. Additionally, Ron manages our
Safety and Emergency equipment inspection programs for a
wide range of clients, both industrial and construction.
Ron holds a degree in Occupational Safety
and Health. He
also holds certifications as a Fire Instructor from the California
Office of the State Fire Marshal, Medical Fire Responder,
First Responder Operations, Confined Space Supervisor, Title
22/RCRA Hazardous Waste Hander and DOT Hazmat/Employee.

Rob Williamson
Senior Trainer/Consultant
SCM recently welcomed another member to our team, Rob Williamson. Rob brings over 20 years of Environmental Health and Safety experience, most of which was spent in front of the training room at Air Products and Chemicals Inc.
While new to the family, Rob has been a friend of SCM for over 10 years. While at Air Products, he received a lot of his training from SCM instructors including Mark Rea, who encouraged his passion for safety and training. In fact, Rob says, “I owe most of my instructing career to Mark and SCM, because they provided the best safety training with the most caring and professional approach.” Rob also thanks his former employer Air Products, “Without them I would not be where I am today. ”
A long with the rich background in safety training, Rob is also a published writer with a safety related manuscript in production with an east coast publishing house. The book is about accident investigation and human error, topics in which Rob is will acquainted since much of his prior experience also includes these areas. |
Gary L. Cates
Safety Consultant
A long time consultant with SCM,
Gary hasmanaged projects for public and private client
base specializing in the fields of construction safety/regulatory
compliance and emergency planning/response. Gary’s primary
emphasis is on construction safety, helping clients maintain
compliance with Cal-OSHA regulations, site safety inspections,
and accident investigation and cause analysis. In addition
to preparing site safety plans and developing written code
of safe work practice for construction projects, Gary works
with clients in OSHA citation proceedings and specializes
in regulatory consultation.
As the former Fire Chief for the City
of Berkeley, Gary’s
background in emergency management provides unique qualifications
for consultation and training in Incident Command and Emergency
Response. In addition to being a much in demand speaker
for the Federal Emergency Management Agency/Emergency Management
Institute, he is a certified expert witness in fire suppression
and related fields. Gary holds several degrees in fire
science and public administration, as well as a Life Time
Teaching Credential from the California College system.

Mark Rea
Training Programs Manager
Mark Rea has brought a wealth of
experience to SCM for more than a dozen years. As the Training Programs Manager,
he is a much in demand trainer in site specific Hazardous
Materials, HAZWOPER, Emergency Response, and related training. His
extensive operational experience in both field work as well
as clean up operations gives him a fresh, real world view
that easily translates to a wide range of audiences.
An active Reservist with the US Coast
Guard, Mark was called into active duty following the tragic
events of September 11, 2001. Since his return he adds perspective to the evolving
topics of anti-terrorism and bio-terrorism threats along with
his specialty, radiation. He wrote the radiation response
program for the Coast Guard. His experience in Code Enforcement
with city and county organizations allows Mark to easily navigate
through OSHA and other regulatory agency requirements. Additionally,
Mark has served as an Emergency Planner and Coordinator for
both public and private agencies, designing and implementing
written disaster programs and practical exercises that work. |
