President

Paul GanttPaul W. Gantt is the current President of Safety Compliance Management, Inc. (SCM), and is one of the founding partners of the corporation. Paul has over 30 years of experience working in the emergency management field serving in a variety of positions. His career has included over 15 years working in the Fire Service where he held a variety of positions from Firefighter through Fire Chief. He has also been actively involved in providing training programs for over 20 years to a large number of varied audiences.

Under his leadership, SCM has grown from a small provider of safety training programs, to a recognized leader in a variety of areas including occupational health and safety programs, hazardous materials handling and response, environmental compliance, emergency preparedness and response, disaster preparation, business recovery, regulatory compliance, and corporate security related issues. SCM currently provides services in these areas to a large number of clients throughout the United States. This list includes University of California, Bayer Corporation, Apple Computer, Hewlett Packard, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Air Products, Mallinckrodt Baker, Rhodia/Rhone Poulenc, Chevron USA, and a variety of private and governmental agencies.

While in the Fire Service, Paul worked as a Firefighter/Paramedic, Paramedic Operations Officer, Training Officer, Fire Captain, Battalion Chief, Fire Marshal, Deputy Fire Chief, Radiological Officer, and Fire Chief. He held these positions through his career, which included service in four different fire agencies. In addition, Paul was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the California Fire Training Officers' Association and also served as their President. He is currently a Life Member in the Fire Training Officers' Association.

In addition to his experience in the Fire Service, Paul has actively been involved in providing a wide range of educational programs. He is widely in demand as a public speaker and regularly is invited to be a guest lecturer for a number of programs and audiences. As a trainer, he has taught at a variety of colleges and universities throughout California and currently serves as an instructor for the University of California Extension programs. He is certified by the State of California Office of the State Fire Marshal, Governor's Office of Emergency Services, Federal Emergency Management Agency, California EPA, and the University of California to provide a wide array of training programs in areas that include hazardous materials handling and response, emergency preparedness and response, occupational health and safety, and regulatory compliance.

Since 1980, Paul has been actively involved working with a range of clients to assist them with a complexity of business related health and safety issues. These have included working within the framework of the regulatory compliance issues involving the Uniform Building Code, Uniform Fire Code, National Fire Protection Association standards, Title 22, Title 8, 29 CFR, and others. In addition to regulatory compliance, Paul has worked to develop and deliver programs in the areas of disaster and emergency preparedness, corporate security, business recovery, management/leadership and other contemporary issues; and has been used as an expert witness in accident reconstruction, emergency operations, and management practices.

Paul has received a number of certifications and degrees including an Associate Degree in Fire Science, Bachelors Degree in Public Administration, and certification as a Fire Officer, Fire Prevention Officer, Public Education Officer, Radiological Officer, Fire Instructor, Emergency Medical Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician and Specialist, Paramedic, Registered Environmental Assessor, and has lifetime teaching credentials in several disciplines.

Paul is the author of the textbook entitled Hazardous Materials,: Regulations, Response, and Site Operations, which covers all aspects of chemical handling and response (Hazwoper). He also is the developer of a number of Internet-based training courses used by organizations throughout the United States.
