MARK REA
Trainer/Consultant Mark
Rea is a Trainer for Safety Compliance Management Inc. (SCM). Mark brings
a field of background experience that is unique to the training forum. Having
served eighteen years with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and Coast
Guard Reserve, Mark presents his unique experiences and background to the
classroom in a way that enlivens the curricula and motivates the students.Among Mark's capabilities are strong communication and organizational skills. One of his lifetime goals has always been instructing. His motivation and enthusiasm reflect in the way his students thoroughly enjoy his presentation manner and are stimulated by the experience. He has shown himself adept at developing and implementing lesson plans that meet the needs of the customer. Mark has outstanding leadership qualities that have been refined by years of difficult decision making in the field. He incorporates this in classroom experience to relate the importance of what he teaches and how a student can make the right decision at the right time. Before joining the SCM team, Mark gained real world experience through his years of active service with the USCG. This experience translates into classroom anecdotes and professionalism that directly benefits the student and makes the training memorable. Some of these experiences came as a Marine Science Technician and trainer on an ice breaker in Antarctica dealing with hazardous waste disposal and cleanup. Mark is still with the United States Coast Guard Reserve and he was recalled to active duty after the events of September 11th, 2001. From September through April 2002 he remained on active duty. During this time, he gained experience in the fields of law enforcement, site security and counter-terrorism. After release from active duty, Mark has returned to his responsibilities with SCM, while continuing as a Coast Guard Reservist. Mark has a wide-ranging education that encompasses his diverse experience. While on active duty with the Coast Guard he found the time to attain a Bachelor's degree from San Francisco State University. Further educational degrees and certificates include an Associate Degree in Physical Science, and Coast Guard schools including Marine Safety School, Marine Science Technician School, Personnel Support School, and System Manager School. Mark has also taken courses from the California Maritime Academy and Hazardous Materials classes from the Environmental Protection Agency. He also has two years experience as an Industrial Waste Inspector at the local government level. He maintains certification as a Grade I Environmental Compliance Inspector with the California Water Environment Association (CWEA). In the field of Hazardous Materials, Mark has been certified to the Hazardous Materials Technician and Specialist level through the State of California Office of Emergency Services. He was able to successfully implement this training as a Pollution Investigator and augment his knowledge through actual field experience. In all, a combination of years of operational and instructor experience gives Mark the skills to present training in a positive, realistic and dynamic manner. |
