Safety Trivia Quiz

 

It seems like November has flown by. It’s time for the safety quiz already. This month we are providing a variety of questions, some safety trivia. Test yourself with these questions. The answers will be at the bottom of the quiz.

1. If you hear the fire alarm sounding, or smell smoke, what should be your first action?

A. Evacuate – get yourself and everyone around you out of the area to a safe area.

B. Find the nearest fire extinguisher and go find the fire.

C. Call your supervisor and tell them what’s going on.

D. Call 9-1-1, then go investigate what is happening.

 

2. You are the facility maintenance person for machine shop. The lathe is not working properly. You need to see what is wrong and possibly fix it. What should be the first actions you should take before working on the lathe?

A. Unplug the lathe.

B. Let the people that work around where the lathe is that you are going to work on it, asking them not to plug it in until you are done.

C. Put a cap on the end of the plug and tie a tag on it to let people know you are working on the lathe so they don’t plug the cord back into the socket.

D. Look to see if there is any other power source to the lathe and disconnect that or those power source(s), locking it/them out.

E. None of the above.

F. All of the above are correct and should be your first actions before working on the machine.

 

3. Your supervisor wants you to change a light bulb. The light fixture is on the ceiling, 12 feet overhead. You have a six-foot ladder. What should you do?

A. Use the six-foot ladder. If you stand on the top, you should be able to reach the light fixture.

B. Inform your supervisor that you will need a taller ladder.

C. Use the six-foot ladder, and have a coworker hold it to keep it stable.

D. Roll a cart over to where you could place the ladder on the cart to reach the light fixture.

 

4. A coworker falls. The coworker’s only injury is that a tooth fell out. You pack some gauze into the hole where the tooth came from and are getting ready to take the coworker to a dentist. Someone hands you the avulsed tooth. What do you do with the tooth?

A. You put the tooth in your pocket to deal with later. You can’t reattach a tooth.

B. You put the tooth in a baggie with some ice and take it with you.

C. You wrap the tooth in more gauze and give it to the coworker. Maybe he wants to keep it.

D. You put the tooth in a cup, cover it with milk, and take the tooth with you in case the dentist can reattach it.
